This month, our own CEO, Ran Korber, became infected with a severe case of Coronavirus. Thankfully, he is now back to full health and has recovered well.

Here Ran explains how he decided to take things into his own hands and ordered an oxygen machine to his home as he felt his symptoms become more serious.

Q: Dr Jeremy:
“Ran. Thanks for joining me. We’ll talk about what’s going on in the world, and there’s always something going on right now — there are fires in California, COVID is going on, and there’s always a need for air quality. It’s like one of those things that you take for granted until you don’t have it — you know, actually breathing air.
So, I’ll talk about what the company (BreezoMeter) does, how you founded it…but you mentioned, Jeremy, I might be coughing because my family and I had COVID.
Just talk briefly about this as it kind of transitions neatly into why air is so important when it comes to respiratory issues and kind of stems from why you even started this company in the first place.
So what was your experience with COVID?”.
A: Ran (BreezoMeter CEO):
Yeah so, my wife was infected by one of her colleagues at work and before we found out she was sick, the whole family was sick. So, first of all, luckily for us — my two kids didn’t have symptoms — thank God for that. My wife had very light symptoms, just 3 days of fever, feeling a little sick a little, but after that she was fine.
I on the other hand had severe symptoms. I was sick for almost 10 days. It was very hard for me to breathe, like I literally couldn’t breathe. At some point, the oxygen level was very low — which kind of risked my life.
I have to say this is the worst disease I ever had — you know, I am a healthy man. I don’t think I ever met my personal doctor — I’m one of those individuals who is hardly ever sick.
After 3 days of very severe symptoms, almost unable to breathe, can’t get out of bed, my legs hurt, all my body hurt, I decided to take action as I couldn’t wait to go to hospital. My doctors didn’t feel it was severe enough for me to go to hospital because the hospitals are full in every major city… in almost every city in the world probably.. because winter is coming.
So I decided to take action by myself. I rented an oxygen generator and a ventilator machine and basically treated myself.
Q: Dr Jeremy:
So what did that actually look like? Did you have a mask with oxygen?
Ran (BreezoMeter CEO):
Yeah, so I just basically checked online — what can help people that are unable to breathe. At BreezoMeter we work with leading pharmaceutical companies like AstraZeneca and ALK and ResMed, so we are familiar with the treatments that companies provide to asthma & COPD patients, so based on my research and experience, I approached one of the medical devices companies that manufacture oxygen machines and rented it for $100 a month.
Q: Dr Jeremy:
Wow. I was expecting way more than that.
A: Ran (BreezoMeter CEO):
Yeah, I found out it wasn’t that costly — that it costs about $1000 to buy it and if you rent it, about $100 per month. From the moment I called the sales person to the moment the oxygen generator was at my house, it took 30 minutes.
Q: Dr Jeremy:
Wow! 30 minutes!
A: Ran (BreezoMeter CEO):
Yeah, these companies are used to working with hospitals and emergency units so they have great customer experience. From the moment I started monitoring oxygen levels and started using the oxygen generator, this is the moment I started the healing process.
One day after using the oxygen generator I could walk again, I could speak again, and 3 days after I was totally recovered.
Q: Dr Jeremy:
That’s amazing because, you know, you have a background in this and you have the wherewithal to find it, and most people don’t and fall into that range of I’m not quite ready to go to the hospital but it’s really hard to breathe.
So, thanks for sharing that.
